Age Calculator

Find your exact age in years, months and days, count down to your next birthday, and discover your zodiac sign and generation.

How it works

Enter a date of birth. Age is worked out as of today, or as of any date you choose.

We count whole years, then whole months, then the leftover days. Totals in months, weeks, days and hours are shown too.

Your next birthday shows the weekday and how many days away it is. Fun facts include your Western zodiac sign, Chinese zodiac animal and generation.

Formula

age = whole years + whole months + remaining days from date of birth

Where:

date of birth
= Your birth date
age on
= The date to measure to (today by default)

Worked example

Someone born on February 29, 2000, on March 1, 2026.

2026 isn't a leap year, so their birthday counts on February 28. One day later they're 26 years, 0 months and 1 day old.

Tracking Life Milestones

Beyond knowing your current age, this tool is vital for identifying when children reach developmental milestones or when teenagers reach legal eligibility for driving, voting, or other age-restricted activities. Use the 'Age on' field to see exactly how old someone will be on a specific future date or anniversary.

The countdown to your next birthday is helpful for long-term event planning. Knowing the exact weekday of your upcoming birthday allows you to plan celebrations in advance. The total count in hours, weeks, and days offers a unique perspective on how much time has passed since your birth.

Handling Birthday Edge Cases

Individuals born on Leap Day (February 29th) often face confusion during non-leap years regarding their legal age. Practically, most jurisdictions recognize February 28th or March 1st as the official birthday. Our calculator follows the common convention of using February 28th to ensure consistency for insurance, legal, or medical records.

Another point of confusion is the Chinese Zodiac. Because the Lunar New Year shifts every year, being born in early February often means you belong to the previous year's sign. We include an indicator to help you verify your animal sign based on the specific date of the Lunar New Year for your birth year.

Generational and Zodiac Insights

Understanding which generation you belong to, whether Millennial, Gen X, or Boomer, can provide context for demographic and cultural trends. We use widely accepted date ranges from research centers to categorize your age. While these boundaries are fluid, they offer a helpful starting point for cultural identification and social research.

Your Western Zodiac sign is determined by your position in the solar calendar. By providing the exact dates for each sign, the tool removes guesswork for those born on the 'cusp,' ensuring that your astrological profile is as accurate as your chronological age, giving you a complete picture of your temporal identity.

Frequently asked questions

In non-leap years we treat February 28 as the birthday. This matches many legal and practical uses, though some places use March 1.
